📘 Course Overview
The Scripps Cardiovascular Atherosclerosis course is a continuing medical education (CME) conference designed for clinicians to improve their skills and knowledge in predicting, preventing, diagnosing, treating, and managing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) — which includes conditions like coronary artery disease and stroke that are caused by plaque build-up in arteries.
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Despite progress in treatments, many patients still suffer because risk factors (like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and lifestyle issues) aren’t always well managed. This course aims to help clinicians bridge that gap and apply evidence-based approaches in real practice.
🎯 What the Course Aims to Do
After participating, healthcare professionals should be able to:
• Identify effective risk prediction tools and treatments for ASCVD, including lifestyle and medication strategies.
• Understand and apply current guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) and emerging approaches to cardiovascular risk management.
• Recognize unique risk factors and treatment considerations — including those related to women’s cardiovascular health.
• Describe novel and advanced therapies, like approaches to resistant hypertension and specialized cardiovascular drugs.
• Incorporate evidence-based practices for diagnosing and managing peripheral artery disease.
