Even if you are not taking the exam this year, this course offers comprehensive cardiovascular ultrasound education. This Review Course will cover all aspects of cardiovascular ultrasound essential to these examinations, including physics, valvular heart disease, strain and 3D imaging, contrast echocardiography, ischemic heart disease, congenital heart disease, and more. The expert faculty will use case studies and lectures to help prepare attendees for the ASCeXAM\u00ae examination.<\/h4>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Course\/Activity Information<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Learning Objectives:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Upon completion of this course, participants should be better able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Explain the essential physical principles of cardiac ultrasound.<\/li>\n<li>Recognize common ultrasound artifacts and their genesis.<\/li>\n<li>Estimate systolic function using standard M-mode and 2D echocardiography, as well as newer modalities such as strain imaging and 3D echocardiography.<\/li>\n<li>Identify and quantitate valvular heart disease severity.<\/li>\n<li>Describe the application of Doppler in the assessment of hemodynamics and diastolic function.<\/li>\n<li>Perform clinically relevant calculations of valve areas and intracardiac pressures.<\/li>\n<li>Explain proven techniques for interpreting stress echocardiographic examinations.<\/li>\n<li>Differentiate features of cardiac tamponade, constrictive pericarditis, and restrictive cardiomyopathy.<\/li>\n<li>List appropriate applications of echocardiography.<\/li>\n<li>Recognize newer applications of echocardiography such as myocardial contrast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Accreditation Statement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The American Society of Echocardiography is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.<\/p>\n<p>The American Society of Echocardiography designates this activity for a maximum of\u00a0<strong>28.75\u00a0<em>AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)<\/em>\u2122\u00a0<\/strong><em>(pending approval)<\/em>.\u00a0Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.<\/p>\n<p>Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn MOC points in the\u00a0<strong>American Board of Internal Medicine\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>(ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program and the\u00a0<strong>American Board of Pediatrics<\/strong>\u00a0(ABP) MOC program.
